Dragon Naturally Speaking Video 6 – Browsing the Web

Published: | 2 Comments

Reading Time: 2 minutesDragon NaturallySpeakingThis is the 6th in a series of videos about Dragon Naturally Speaking, and in this video I show you how to start browsing the web with Dragon. I cover the commands required to scroll the browser window up and down, to tell dragon which website you want to visit, and to open new browser tabs and move between them.

Further videos in this series will look at other aspects of using Dragon with a browser with web pages, including following links, filling out forms, and emulating mouse movement.

Hi there, my name’s Graham Armfield from Coolfields Consulting and in this video I’m going to start to show you how you can browse the web with Dragon Naturally Speaking.

So here we are on a website in Internet Explorer. On Windows machines, Dragon works best with Internet Explorer although it wouldn’t necessarily be my own first choice of browser.

The first thing I’m going to show you is how to move up and down the page so you can read all of it. For this there we use the commands, ‘Page Down’ and its companion ‘Page Up’.

Wake up, Page Down, Page Down, Page Up, Go to sleep

It’s also possible to move more finely using scrolling commands:

Wake up, Start scrolling down, Stop scrolling, Go to sleep

In order to select the website the want to visit you can enter the address straight into the location bar using the ‘Go to Address’ command.

Wake up, Go to address, bbc.co.uk, Press enter, Page down, Go to sleep

The back button can be accessed using the ‘Go back’ command.

Wake up, Go back, Go to sleep

To open a new tab you can use the command ‘Open new tab’, and it’s easy to switch between the tabs too.

Wake up, Open new tab, Switch to previous tab, Switch to next tab, Close tab, Go to sleep

So that’s basic navigation around the browser window.

What next?

In the next video in the series I show how to follow links when browsing the web using Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

The rest of the series

Here are links to the ones I’ve done so far.
